Tim David’s power-packed fifty sealed the Hurricanes’ victory over the forwards

Tim David's explosive half-century led the Hobart Hurricanes to a five-wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes recovered from a shaky start thanks to David's heroics in the middle overs to secure their fourth win in five matches.

Hurricanes get off to a flying start

The Hurricanes got off to a fast start thanks to an aggressive opening partnership between Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade. The duo added 61 runs in just 28 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Owen was particularly destructive when he smashed Jamie Overton for three consecutive sixes in the fourth over.

However, Lloyd Pope brought the Strikers back into the game by dismissing Owen for 37 off 16 balls. Wade followed soon after and fell to 27 off 18 in a Cameron Boyce sweep attempt. The Hurricanes, once cruising, found themselves at 101/4 in the 11th over.

The heroism of Tim David

With the borders drying up, Tim David took matters into his own hands. Targeting Overton in the 15th over, he smashed three sixes and a four and scored 26 runs. David brought up his half-century in just 22 balls and showcased his explosive hitting.

Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary put together a vital 75-run stand for the fifth wicket to steady the Hurricanes' chase. Chaudhary contributed a steady 22 off 22 balls before getting out, but David made sure there was no slip.

With just 11 runs needed from the last two overs, David hit Brendan Doggett for a six to ease the pressure and Chris Jordan sealed the victory with a boundary. David finished unbeaten on a blistering 62 off 28 balls, smashing six sixes and three fours as the Hurricanes ended the game with eight balls to spare.

Collective firing of attackers

Earlier in the day, Adelaide Strikers posted a competitive total of 186/5 thanks to valuable contributions from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. Lynn's quickfire 49 off 27 balls with five fours and three sixes gave the Strikers a solid start.

Ross played an important role in the middle overs, scoring 47 off 29 balls. He shared a 64-run stand with Ollie Pope before falling to a brilliant catch by Mitchell Owen. Overton's 27 not out off 18 deliveries ensured the Strikers finished strong, adding 41 runs in the last four overs.
